LISAsoft specialises in the full range of spatial technologies, including spatial databases and web services, as well as clients for desktop, web and mobile applications. These are all integrated using spatial standards.
At the bottom of the spatial stack is the spatial database. Spatial databases provide efficient storage for spatial attributes and provide interfaces for spatial queries, such as “what suburbs are within five km of a train line?” There are a range of spatial databases available, both proprietary and open source, ranging from enterprise systems through to light databases designed to run on mobile phones.
In the middle, we have web services. There is a range of standards based web services for publishing spatial information, such as the Web Map Server, which publishes map images, Web Feature Server for publishing vectors, and Catalogue Server for the Web, which is used for finding spatial and non-spatial datasets. By designing systems around these standards, architects can build applications which interoperate, sharing data between agencies and applications.
At the interface layer are the desktop, browser and mobile clients. Dedicated desktop clients are used for high end, or specialised mapping tasks, such as detailed spatial analysis or data conflation. Browser based mapping clients are attractive due to their low deployment costs, wide reach, and increasingly powerful spatial functionality. Location aware mobile devices open a wide range of mapping applications for field workers and general consumers, incorporating a user’s location, data in the user’s vicinity and the task at hand.
Spatial standards are available to integrate all these systems. Using open standards enables extensibility which future proofs upcoming systems. It allows interoperability between both proprietary and open source applications for the full stack of spatial technologies.
LISAsoft has practical experience with all these technologies, from the writing of spatial standards, through to development of underlying software, and then integration of disparate components in standards based enterprise systems. By tapping into LISAsoft’s detailed technical experience across the breath of spatial technologies, you know you will be getting a world leading, robust, and future proofed solution.
